Unemployed productivity
Friday was my last day at work, and now the clock is ticking for our big move to Seattle. There is so much to do, but I gave myself today to have fun and do whatever. I dressed for the gym, and never made it. Oh well. I was amazed to find out how much you can get done when you don't work (and don't have kids, etc.)! Today I pieced the back of a quilt I started long ago, basted it, AND quilted it. Ridiculous. I mean, it's a pretty simple quilt, but to have such a long stretch of time to work on it was such a luxury! More pictures to follow - it's a present for someone! :) I kept reading about people who use a spoon to close their safety pins while basting and I'm totally amazed and converted! It made that slow and physically painful process so much quicker and easier! Now I'm watching Twilight and finishing the hand-stitched binding on my paintbox quilt - this is taking me forever to finish!Here's a picture of a pincushion my friend Laurie made me. Can you explain to me how the spoon is used?? It always breaks my nails to baste...I know I'm totally doing it wrong!
ReplyDeleteI kind of just played around with it until I found a way that worked. Eventually I ended up holding the spoon in my left hand, and holding the fat part of the safety pin with my right hand. Lift up the sharp part of the safety pin off the surface of the quilt with the spoon and towards the fat part in your right hand. Somehow they just kind of snap together and it's easy to get into a groove quickly. Some were more tricky than others, or it would kind of twist out of your hand, but you can always just use your hands for those ones. No more nail breaking! Okay, that was really hard to explain in writing. I can show you in person if that didn't help! :)
